About Nyūdōzaki (Nyūdōzaki Lighthouse)

A breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the Sea of Japan from the northernmost point of Oga.

Details

At the northernmost point of the Oga Peninsula, which protrudes in the northwest of Akita Prefecture, lies a cape on the 40th parallel north. At the end of the gentle grasslands, there are 30-meter-high cliffs and a vast view of the Sea of Japan. It is the best spot to enjoy the beautiful contrast of green fields, blue skies, and the ocean, along with a lighthouse that you can climb to the top of and a glass-bottom boat. The black and white striped "Nyudozaki Lighthouse" is a symbol of Nyudozaki. It is one of only 16 lighthouses out of more than 3,000 in Japan that is open for climbing to the top, and it has been selected as one of the '50 Best Lighthouses in Japan.' The approximately 28-meter-tall lighthouse offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Oga Peninsula and the Sea of Japan. Around the cape, dining establishments serve traditional Oga stone-grilled dishes and fresh seafood bowls, attracting a large number of tourists and motorcycle travelers during the peak season.
