📖 Details
The Oga Aquarium GAO is located on the western coast of the Oga Peninsula in Akita Prefecture. In this aquarium, you can see various marine life, including fish that inhabit the waters around the Oga Peninsula.
Near the entrance, the "Oga Sea Large Tank" recreates the marine environment of the Oga Peninsula, housing about 40 species and over 2,000 fish swimming within it. As it is a tunnel-type tank, visitors can look up from below and watch the fish swimming overhead, experiencing the wonderful sensation of walking underwater.
The most popular attractions in the aquarium are the polar bear mother and cub, Gouta and Yuki, whose playful and adorable antics are very healing. Additionally, there is the "Hireashi's Pavilion," where you can observe sea lions and seals up close, as well as a penguin display area.
The "Hatahata Museum," which showcases Akita Prefecture's prefectural fish, the Hatahata, not only presents the ecology of the Hatahata but also details its impact on Akita's food culture as a preserved ingredient.
