About Oga Onsen Village
A hot spring town where you can fully experience the traditional folk activity of Akita, "Namibaki Oni."
Details
Oga Onsen Village is located on the northern side of the Oga Peninsula, which is surrounded by the sea on three sides. It is said to have been discovered by the legendary shogun Sakanoue no Tamuramaro during his eastern expedition. During the Edo period, the lord of Akita frequently visited this area to enjoy the hot springs, making it a historically significant hot spring destination.
The spring water is primarily sodium chloride, with a composition similar to seawater, containing a large amount of salt, which has the characteristic of retaining heat and not cooling down easily. It is said that the salt adhering to the skin while soaking in the hot spring prevents sweat from evaporating, allowing the body to warm up from the inside out. It is also known as "netuyu" (熱湯), a famous beauty-enhancing hot spring, and is said to be effective in healing cuts, burns, and chronic skin diseases.
At Oga Onsen Village's "Oga Onsen Exchange Hall Gofu," performances that blend traditional Japanese taiko drumming with "Namahage" (生剥鬼) are frequently held. The powerful and spirited performances are one of the attractions that draw many visitors. Additionally, you can enjoy Oga's famous stone-grilled cuisine. Fresh seafood ingredients from the local area are placed in a wooden tub filled with clear water, and then hot stones are added, instantly cooking the ingredients. This is a delicacy that can only be enjoyed in Oga.

You can experience Akita's unique traditional folk culture, including the "Namahage" ritual, and enjoy the stunning scenery of the hot spring town.
