Details

The birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu (1542-1616), who founded the Edo Shogunate. In 2006, it was selected as one of the "100 Famous Castles of Japan." The three-story, five-story reconstructed tenshu, rebuilt in 1959, is a symbol of Okazaki City. Inside the castle, there are several distinctive areas, such as a model area that introduces the features of Okazaki Castle, as well as scenes using models and AR (Augmented Reality) technology to recreate the bustling appearance of the Okazaki castle town as a transportation hub along the Tōkaidō. From the fifth floor, one can overlook the Yahagi River and the Okazaki highway. Surrounding Okazaki Castle is Okazaki Park, which features attractions loved by history enthusiasts, such as the "Mikawa Samurai Residence Ieyasu Hall," which introduces Ieyasu and the samurai who followed him.
