🗺️ Old Moji Mitsui Club旧門司三井倶楽部

The Old Moji Mitsui Club was established in 1921 and originally served as a social club for Mitsui & Co., Ltd. of Japan. It features exposed wooden beams and columns, employing the European traditional wooden construction technique known as half-timbering, emphasizing deep brown wood with vertical and horizontal lines that create a striking contrast with the white window frames, giving the complex design a strong character. The fashionable Art Deco style can be seen in the fireplaces, doors, window frames, and the main columns of the grand staircase in each room, exuding a vintage charm steeped in history. It was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1990. The first floor houses a restaurant, while the second floor features the "Einstein Memorial Room," which replicates the guest room where Dr. Einstein and his wife stayed in 1922, as well as a memorial room for the writer Fumiko Enchi, who hailed from Moji. An additional ticket is required to visit the second floor.

The building employs traditional European wooden construction techniques. It was designated as an important national cultural asset in 1990, possessing significant historical value. There is also a visitor area that replicates the room where the Einstein couple stayed.
