📖 Details

The old Tōkaidō Shinagawa-juku is one of the post towns along the "Tōkaidō," the major transportation route connecting Edo to Kyoto. The Tōkaidō is one of the main roads representing the Edo period, passing through 53 post stations, and is also known as "Tōkaidō Gojūsan-tsugi." The first post station starting from Nihonbashi is Shinagawa-juku. Stretching 2 kilometers, Shinagawa-juku is always bustling with a continuous flow of people, remaining quite lively. Today, Shinagawa-juku still resembles its past with numerous shops, preserving the old-town charm of a post station, and the area is home to many historic temples and monuments.
