About Osuga Coast
The "singing sand" that emits a chirping sound, a beautiful coastline with stretches of white sandy beaches.
Details
Otsuka Coast in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, is a vast coastline with a white sandy beach stretching approximately 2.3 kilometers. Walking on the sand produces a chirping sound known as "鸣沙" (nari-suna), which is said to be a sign of the beach's purity and minimal impurities. Compared to earlier times, the sound of the sand has become less pronounced, but if you find the right technique to walk slowly, you can still hear it.
Selected as one of the "Top 100 Beaches in Japan," Otsuka Coast prohibits swimming due to its rough waves. Walking on the dry sand and letting your feet touch the water can be quite enjoyable. Additionally, Otsuka Coast is part of the walking route surrounding the so-called scenic treasure trove of "Tanesashi Coast," where you can see visitors strolling and enjoying the scenery from spring to autumn. Nearby, there are attractions like the "Ashimotoyama Observatory," which offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, and "Nakazuka," which is home to over 600 species of coastal and alpine plants, making them recommended stops to include in your itinerary.
