About Sayama Lake
You can enjoy beautiful scenery such as cherry blossoms, Mount Fuji, and sunsets, as well as observe the ecology of wild birds at the lake.
Details
Sayama Lake, which spans the regions of Tokorozawa City and Iruma City in Saitama Prefecture, is an artificial lake built to secure water sources. As an irreplaceable dam lake in the area, it has been selected as one of Japan's "Top 100 Dam Lakes."
The surrounding area is Sayama Nature Park, known for its beautiful natural environment throughout the four seasons. The most captivating sight is the breathtaking view of 20,000 cherry blossom trees blooming simultaneously along the lakeside in spring. There are hardly any words other than "stunning" to describe its beauty. On clear days, one can also see Mount Fuji and its reflection on the lake's surface, as well as the enchanting scenery of Mount Fuji shrouded in twilight.
Sayama Lake is also a famous "birdwatching sanctuary," home to over 40 species of wild birds. Many birdwatching enthusiasts frequently visit to observe the birds frolicking along the lakeside and in the surrounding forests.
The symbolic attraction of Sayama Lake is the "water intake tower" at the end of the suspension bridge, which features a pointed roof. The water intake tower resembles a European castle floating on the lake's surface, exuding an air of elegance, making it a popular spot for photography. However, as it is a facility for water intake, interior visits are not permitted.
