🗺️ Sendai City Arcade Shopping Street

📝 Introduction

The number one shopping street in the Tohoku region.

📖 Details

From Sendai Station, there are several shopping streets extending east and west, including "HAPINA名掛丁商店街" (HAPINA Nagakado Shopping Street), "CLIS ROAD商店街" (CLIS ROAD Shopping Street), and "Marble Road Ohmachi商店街" (Marble Road Ohmachi Shopping Street), as well as north-south extending streets like "SUN MALL一番町商店街" (SUN MALL Ichibancho Shopping Street), "VLANDOME一番町商店街" (VLANDOME Ichibancho Shopping Street), and "一番町四丁目商店街" (Ichibancho 4-Chome Shopping Street), forming a shape similar to the letter "ト". Shopping is very convenient, with a variety of stores from daily necessities, restaurants, to souvenir shops. In the alleys a bit further from the shopping streets, there are also several izakayas that exude a wonderful Showa-era atmosphere. The shopping streets are also the venue for the "仙台七夕祭" (Sendai Tanabata Festival), one of the three major festivals in the Tohoku region, attracting up to 2 million tourists during the event from August 6 to 8 each year. The luxurious and dazzling Tanabata decorations on both sides of the shopping streets are a feast for the eyes. Another event worth visiting is the "仙台年初開賣" (Sendai New Year Sale), the largest event in the former Sendai domain, held at the beginning of the year. This commercial activity, which has been continued since the Edo period, has received national recognition and may even offer more luxurious prizes than other regions as an exception. It is said that people start lining up at long-established stores and popular shops from December 30.
