About Shimo-Kawahara Greenway
It was once a place where freight trains transporting sand and gravel passed through.
Details
The Shimo-Kawahara Greenway is a green road built on the site of the "Tokyo Gravel Railway," which was laid in 1910. The Tokyo Gravel Railway was originally constructed for the extraction and transportation of gravel from the Tamagawa River. However, as time progressed, it gradually lost its original function and was abolished in 1976. Now, it has been transformed into a lush pathway, serving as a place for residents to walk, jog, and cycle. This location also appears as a backdrop in the popular anime "Chihayafuru."
Highlights
A green walkway built on the abandoned site of the Tokyo Gravel Railway. In some places, two iron tracks embedded in the pavement are preserved as a reminder of the past. This road serves as the backdrop in the popular anime "Chihayafuru."
