About Shuri Kinjo-cho Stone Path
The stone-paved road leading to Shuri Castle, built in the 16th century.
Details
"Shuri Kinjōmachi Stone Path" is part of the Pearl Road. The Pearl Road was one of the official roads built in the 16th century during the Ryukyu Kingdom era to connect Shuri Castle with other areas. The Shuri Kinjōmachi Stone Path is located in a quiet residential area about 500 meters from Shuri Castle. The stone path has an average width of about 4 meters and stretches approximately 300 meters, paved with Ryukyu limestone pieces measuring about 20 to 30 centimeters.
Originally, the Pearl Road was a 4-kilometer route leading to the Tamayuki Bridge, which spans the Kokuba River, but it was largely destroyed during the Battle of Okinawa in World War II. The Shuri Kinjōmachi, which retains the stone path, is a miraculous area that was spared from the ravages of war, allowing the stone path, flanked by houses on both sides, to be preserved. The stone path is uneven and the Ryukyu limestone becomes very slippery when wet, so it is advisable to wear non-slip, comfortable shoes when visiting.
Nearby the stone path is the worship site "Uchin Kinjōdake," where various deities are enshrined, and you can also see a giant redwood tree over 200 years old, regarded as a sacred tree. This place is considered a holy site by the locals, so please maintain decorum and visit quietly.
Highlights

The stone path is uneven, and there is a risk of slipping when wet, so please wear suitable walking shoes like sneakers. Nearby, "Uechi Kinjo-take" and the local native giant red trees are also must-see attractions.
