The incense specialty shop "Shōeidō," with over 300 years of history in Kyoto, serves as a center for the transmission of "incense culture." On the first floor, there is "koh-labo Aroma Walk," featuring various installations that allow visitors to experience different scents. By immersing your upper body into three "scent boxes" hanging from the ceiling, you can enjoy the magical experience of being surrounded by different fragrances. Additionally, there are displays such as the "Sandalwood Giant," which allows you to feel the texture and scent by touch, and the "Incense Pillar," which releases the aroma of incense-making materials when you press a pump. There are also mini models that recreate the traditional incense-making process, showcasing the charm of incense through various exhibits. In the "Shōgin Hall," located behind the entrance, various lectures and special exhibitions related to incense are held. The "Shōjū Library Exhibition Hall," which is only open during special exhibitions, displays a wealth of information related to incense. In the adjacent "Shōeidō Kyoto Main Store," you can also observe the process of making incense sticks (reservation required).
