A science museum equipped with the largest planetarium in Western Japan.
Details
The Children's Cultural Science Museum, which closed in 2021, was transformed and reopened as "Space LABO" on April 28, 2022. Through various displays and themes, visitors can experience the wonders and joys of science.
The first floor is dedicated to "Kitakyushu City and Science," the second floor features "Incredible Scientific Phenomena," and the third floor is themed around "The Universe," equipped with a wealth of interactive exhibits and various devices, including screens. The museum showcases explanations by Tetsuya Fujita, a meteorologist from Kitakyushu City known worldwide by the nickname "Mr. Tornado," as well as Japan's largest tornado simulation device and areas dedicated to explaining fascinating scientific phenomena around us.
In the planetarium, which has a diameter of 30 meters and is the largest dome-shaped planetarium in western Japan, the latest technology recreates a starry sky as beautiful as that found in nature. The 45-minute themed shows offer rich content suitable for both adults and children, allowing visitors to choose based on their interests. There is also a designated "Comfortable Seating" area where visitors can watch even if they make noise, making it very suitable for family outings.
