In 2011, Starbucks opened a store next to the torii gate on the approach to the "Dazaifu Tenmangu" shrine. This is one of the "local landmark stores" that Starbucks has created to convey the charm of local culture to the world, located in a site of symbolic significance in Japan. The unique wooden combination structure inside and outside the building was designed by architect Kengo Kuma, known for the "New National Stadium." Nearly 2,000 cypress trees are intricately combined, not only supporting the building but also creating an image of light and wind flowing through the space. The blend of traditional and modern essence in this space is unlike any other Starbucks locations, and it has continuously attracted attention from both domestic and international visitors since its opening. In front of the store, there is a small garden and terrace seating, while a small garden at the back allows customers to feel the presence of nature inside the store.
