Standing tall at the Kanmon Strait, the Straits Dream Tower, measuring 153 meters in length, has become a beloved landmark in Shimonoseki since its opening in July 1996. Taking a transparent elevator, visitors can reach the observation room, one of the highest in Japan, in just 70 seconds. The observation room is 143 meters high and consists of three floors. From the spherical glass-floored observation room, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Seto Inland Sea, Kanmon Strait, Ganryu Island, Hibiki-nada (Japan Sea), and the opposite shore of Kyushu. The charm of this place lies in the ability to witness the changing light and shadows throughout the morning, afternoon, and evening, as well as the sunset sinking into the sea. Additionally, visitors can experience AR challenges inside the tower. By downloading an app and pointing the camera at the space or windows in the observation room, the tower's mascot "Yume Maru" introduces various information about the tower, allowing travelers to explore the past and future of Shimonoseki in virtual reality and enjoy a timeless experience. The Straits Dream Tower has also been recognized as a "Sacred Place for Lovers" in Yamaguchi Prefecture, making it a popular dating spot, with a matchmaking shrine located on the 28th floor. Furthermore, at night, it lights up with colorful lights, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.
