Details
The museum showcases items themed around the Showa era, including retro toys, goods, clothing, and more, all enveloped in a peculiar atmosphere. Outside the building, reminiscent of an old elementary school, a giant penguin statue wearing a top hat can be seen from afar, instantly breaking the sense of strangeness.
Upon entering the museum, visitors are greeted by a bizarre atmosphere filled with densely packed exhibits on various themes. The first floor features a section with mannequins dressed in popular fashion from the Meiji to Taisho and Showa periods, as well as a dazzling array of nostalgic toys, dolls, idol records, and posters. The second floor houses collections related to the supernatural and horror, along with a section dedicated to works by world-renowned domestic creators. The separate building, "Shin'ya Gakkou" (深夜学校), is a haunted house themed around exploring a creepy nighttime elementary school, where sensors detect human movement and make dolls perform various actions, guaranteed to elicit screams.
Additionally, in Ito City, there are two sister museums, "Yume no Hakubutsukan" (夢幻博覽會) and "Neko no Hakubutsukan" (猫咪博物館), both of which have many enthusiastic fans. If you have time, it's worth visiting them together.
