Established in 1954 as the southern entrance of the first arcade shopping street in the Tohoku region, walking along the arcade street, one can see decorations themed around Date Masamune, his armor, and his vassal Sakakura Tsunenaga, evoking memories of the bustling past when it attracted many crowds as the "City of Movies." Extending east from the main road is "Bunka Yokocho," lined with many unique shops and known as a popular nightlife dining street. The name of the shopping street comes from the nickname "Bun-Yoko," which has been used since the opening of the cinema "Bunka Kinema" at the former location of the Shochiku Building, and it is still loved by the local community today. Located south of "Bunka Yokocho" is "Ichinisan Yokocho," where two streets are filled with bookstores, musical instrument shops, clothing stores, as well as various types of shops including merchandise and dining establishments, making it a fun place to stroll around. Every July, the "Ichibancho Sansha Matsuri" is held, where the portable shrines from Nonaka Shrine, Ebisu Shrine, and Rei Shrine parade through the shopping street, immersing the entire area in the festive atmosphere. In August, the shopping street becomes the venue for the "Sendai Tanabata Matsuri," attracting about 2 million visitors from all over the country, with beautiful Tanabata decorations hanging everywhere.
