About Swan Garden
A beautiful Japanese garden depicting the natural landscapes of the Chubu region of Japan.
Details
Shiratori Garden is a pond-and-scenery style Japanese garden designed based on the topography of the Chubu region. Covering an area of 3.7 hectares, it is the largest garden in the Tokai region. The artificial mountain represents Mount Ontake, and the "Kiso River," which originates here, flows down to the scenic valley known as "Ninboku no Tokoro," depicting the natural beauty of the Chubu region. The Kiso River flows steadily and branches into the Ibi River and Nagara River, creating a vast landscape that expands the imagination while strolling through the garden, allowing for a different kind of enjoyment. Shiratori Garden is composed of eight scenic spots, hence the name "Shiratori Hakkei." Each scenic spot is worth exploring in detail.
Located almost at the center of the garden is the "Tea House Seibutei," constructed using natural materials and built in collaboration with the traditional Sukiya woodworking of Kyoto and the Owari woodworking. The exterior is designed to resemble a white heron gracefully descending, showcasing the beautiful harmony between the garden and the building. At the "Tea Room Shioiri," visitors can enjoy matcha or sweets while gazing at the changing scenery of the "Shioiri no Niwa," which varies with the tides, savoring a rich experience.
Highlights
Designed with the topography of the Chubu region in mind, this is the largest pond-style strolling Japanese garden in the Tokai region. The architectural beauty of the "Tea House Seihutei," located almost at the center of the garden, is also noteworthy.
