About Sōya Hills
The hilly region on the outskirts of Japan boasts magnificent natural scenery.
Details
The Souya Hills are located in Wakkanai City, Hokkaido, at the edge of Japan, boasting magnificent natural landscapes. About ten thousand years ago, during the Ice Age, the repeated freezing and melting formed a unique glacial terrain characterized by gentle, smooth undulations. The "Souya Hills Hiking Trail" offers many charming views along the way, making it perfect for a leisurely walk.
In the pastures, you can see the Souya Black Cattle grazing peacefully. The blue sky in the background complements Japan's largest wind farm, where 57 pure white wind turbines add a romantic touch to the majestic scenery. On clear days, you can also enjoy distant views of Mount Rishiri and the Sea of Okhotsk.
Particularly noteworthy is the "White Road," paved with the shells of Wakkanai's famous scallops. The contrast between the blue sky, the ocean, the lush green pastures, and the white road is breathtaking and has become a popular spot on social media.
Be sure to capture memorable photos in this stunning location, designated as a Hokkaido heritage site.
