To the south of Takahata Town in Yamagata Prefecture is Fukushima Prefecture, and to the east is Miyagi Prefecture. Surrounded by lush forests and abundant nature, the area is known for its rice and grape cultivation. It ranks first in Japan for the production of Chardonnay and Delaware grapes, which are commonly used for winemaking. Established in 1990, Takahata Winery specializes in crafting wines that highlight the unique characteristics of grapes from various regions, and it has won numerous awards in domestic and international wine competitions. They also offer several options suitable for wine beginners, with the most representative being "Mahoroba no Kihime (まほろばの貴婦人)." This red wine perfectly combines rich sweetness and bitterness, while the white wine features a full-bodied aroma and a refreshing acidity reminiscent of citrus fruits. Both are the most beloved wines since the winery's inception. The product range is also extensive, including wines made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes grown on their own farm, richly flavored wines aged in oak barrels, products developed in collaboration with local producers, and fruit wines made from cherries, pears, and peaches.
