About Takiyama Park (滝山公園)
A beautiful park built on the ruins of an old castle, with over 2,000 cherry trees.
Details
Located in Hachiōji City, Tokyo, 滝山公園 (Takiyama Park) is named after the ruins of 滝山城 (Takiyama Castle). This castle was once the residence of the 北条氏 (Hōjō clan), active during the Japanese Sengoku period. It has now been designated as a national historical site by the Japanese government. Along the old castle ruins, there is a hiking trail that allows visitors to walk and enjoy the rich natural scenery as well as the historical aspects of the old castle.
The park is home to approximately 2,000 cherry blossom trees, and every early spring, the hill is adorned with the blooms of the Somei Yoshino and mountain cherry varieties, making it one of Tokyo's top spots for cherry blossom viewing. Rest areas and small plazas surrounded by trees are scattered throughout the park, which is another appealing feature.
Highlights
In spring, about 2,000 cherry blossom trees bloom beautifully within the park. Visitors can explore the ruins of a castle that evoke memories of Japan's Warring States period. The stunning scenery of the Sayama Hills can also be admired.
