Tenjin Chikagai, located in the Tenjin area of Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City, is the largest entertainment district in Kyushu. Stretching 600 meters underground from Showa Street on the north side of Watanabe-dori to the south, it leads directly to the national highway. With around 150 shops ranging from fashion and gourmet food to groceries and books, it features streets numbered from 1 to 12. Designed in the style of 19th-century European streets, it boasts cobblestone paths and a ceiling adorned with arabesque patterns, creating a uniquely styled space. Streets 1 to 6 are decorated with stained glass and mechanical clocks, evoking the atmosphere of Northern and Central Europe. Streets 7 to 12 are illuminated from above, recreating the landscape of Southern European streets. Adopting a "theater" concept, the passageways are dimly lit while the shops are brightly illuminated, creating an innovative yet tranquil ambiance that is well-received by the public. Here, visitors can not only enjoy shopping and gourmet food but also have direct access to Tenjin Subway Station and Tenjin Minami Station, as well as Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station and the Nishitetsu Tenjin Bus Terminal, making it a convenient thoroughfare for walking.
