Sandankyo, located in Hiroshima Prefecture, has been designated as a National Special Scenic Area. It stretches approximately 16 kilometers and is one of the few natural hidden gems in western Japan. Visitors can take a human-powered boat through the beautiful gorge, resembling a landscape painting, and enjoy the stunning views that fill the canyon along the stream at the bottom. The highlights include Kurobuchi, Sarutobi, the Ni-dan Falls, the San-dan Falls, and the San-sō Falls, collectively known as the five natural wonders of Sandankyo. The breathtaking scenery is truly astonishing. Another major charm of Sandankyo is the ability to appreciate the ever-changing natural landscapes with the changing seasons. In particular, the fresh greenery in spring and the sight of autumn leaves floating on the stream are exceptionally beautiful.
