📖 Details
The Aoya Town Hiki area is a major production site of Inshu Washi, which has a history of 1300 years. At the Aoya Washi Workshop in Tottori City, visitors can not only learn about this history in depth but also participate in paper-making experiences. Inshu Washi is the first type of washi designated as a national traditional craft, known for its smooth texture made from materials like mulberry and mitsumata, and it has the highest production of calligraphy paper in all of Japan.
Inside the facility, there is a permanent exhibition titled "The Aurora of Washi," which focuses on the techniques of washi making, tools, and the relationship between washi and light, as well as displays such as the long-handled umbrellas used in the traditional performance "Inaba Umbrella Dance." Additionally, there are about four planned exhibitions each year.
In the attached experience workshop, visitors can participate in paper-making experiences and LED lampshade making; there are also seasonal activities like DIY kaleidoscopes, round fans, and paper cutting workshops.
In the attached souvenir shop, you can purchase items such as bookmarks and letter paper sets, as well as various washi products and experience kits.
