About Toward Tokachi (Bihoro Racecourse)
The world's first draft horse pulling sledding race.
Details
The world's first racetrack to host "Draft Horse Racing." "Draft Horse Racing" features large horses known as "draft horses," which were used during the Hokkaido pioneering era for transportation and agricultural work. These horses can weigh up to 1 ton and race while pulling sleds that weigh up to 1 ton on a 200-meter independent track. The straight track includes a first obstacle about 1 meter high and a second obstacle 1.6 meters high.
The key to victory lies in how well the horses can overcome the two obstacles on the track, and the rider's skills are also a major highlight. Initially, there is mutual restraint, followed by a sudden attack or a pause to let the horse catch its breath, making the entire offensive and defensive battle tense and exciting. In flat racing, the outcome is determined by the moment the horse's nose crosses the finish line, while in "Draft Horse Racing," the race is only considered finished when the back end of the sled crosses the finish line, keeping the tension until the very last moment.
The "Beginner's Ticket Purchase Area" inside the venue provides detailed explanations of how to place bets on horse tickets, ensuring that first-time visitors can purchase tickets smoothly. There are 8 types of betting tickets, and those unsure of which to buy can inquire in that area.
In addition to draft horses, the "Interactive Zoo" features cute animals such as mini horses and rabbits.
