About Toyosu Market
Tokyo residents' new kitchen allows for close-up viewing of tuna auctions at the wholesale market.
Details
The predecessor of Toyosu Market was Tsukiji Market, which served as Tokyo's kitchen and supported the dietary life of Tokyoites. As the facilities of Tsukiji Market became increasingly outdated, it relocated to Toyosu in 2018. Toyosu Market not only ensures food hygiene management but also has specially planned tourist routes, allowing general visitors to easily explore the market. Toyosu Market consists of three blocks: the "Wholesale Fish Building," the "Fruits and Vegetables Building," and the "Fish Intermediary Wholesale Market Building." In the Wholesale Fish Building, visitors can observe the tuna auction scene; next to it, the Fruits and Vegetables Building features a viewing passage that categorizes seasonal vegetables and fruits by type and distinguishes them with different colors. The Fish Intermediary Wholesale Market Building includes exhibition halls and gathers many retail restaurants, and visitors can also enjoy views of Tokyo Tower from the green plaza on the building's rooftop. The market auctions start daily at 5:30 AM, so it is recommended to arrive early.
Highlights
The "Seafood Wholesale Building," "Fruit and Vegetable Building," and "Seafood Brokerage Wholesale Market Building" are all open for visits. You can get a close-up view of the world-famous tuna auction. From the rooftop of the "Seafood Brokerage Wholesale Market Building," you can see the Tokyo Tower. The market auction starts around 5:30 in the morning.
