About Umikaze Park
In the vast coastal area, the sailboat "Lady of the Sea" is on display.
Details
The park where the sailing ship "Kaiwomaru," known as the "Lady of the Sea," is docked. Within the vast area of the seaside district, there are several attractions, including the "Japan Sea Exchange Center," which showcases model sailboats from around the world; the "Wild Bird Park," where approximately 150 species of wild birds can be observed year-round; the "Green Corridor," a walkway that is 180 meters long and 10 meters wide; and the "Exchange Square," which features various recreational facilities, including the large play equipment "Wave Climbing Net." On weekends, this place is filled with families and couples enjoying leisurely walks and play, creating a lively atmosphere.
The Kaiwomaru was once a training ship for a merchant marine school and has sailed 1.06 million nautical miles (about 50 times around the Earth) since its launch in the early Showa period. It still retains its original appearance and allows visitors to tour the interior of the ship. The nighttime illumination held every evening is also very popular. The Kaiwomaru hosts 10 events each year where the bright white sails are raised together.
Since the Kaiwomaru was launched on February 14, Valentine's Day, it has become a famous "lovers' sanctuary" in Toyama Prefecture. Among its attractions are several spots that radiate happiness energy, including the "Love Lock," "Bell of Happiness," and "Ship's Bell," located both inside the ship and in the surrounding area.
Highlights
The park also features restaurants and cafeterias. The boarding point for sightseeing boats cruising around Toyama Shin Port and the Naka River is located within the park. The sailboat "Kaiwomaru" has nighttime illuminations every evening, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery illuminated by lights.
