📖 Details
The Usui Pass Railway Cultural Village (碓冰峠鐵道文化村) is a museum where visitors can learn about the 104-year operational history of the Usui Pass Railway from 1893 to 1997, and participate in electric locomotive driving activities.
This museum resembles a theme park. In the "Symbol Square," you can see the "189 Series Limited Express Asama" train that was active during that time and even enter the train car for a visit. The second floor of the "Railway Museum" displays specialized materials and models related to the Usui Pass Railway. There is also an attractive train driving experience activity where, after attending a simple course, you can drive Japan's only EF63 electric locomotive. In the "View Square," restored classic trains from all over Japan are lined up, and some of the cars can be entered for a visit.
Additionally, the Usui Pass Railway Cultural Village offers many vehicles for visitors to enjoy or ride. Among them is the park's circular mini train "Abt-kun," and the "Sightseeing Mini Train Line," which operates on the abandoned down line between Yokokawa and Karuizawa. It is a must-visit spot for railway enthusiasts.
⭐ Highlights
At the "View Plaza," classic vehicles from all over Japan are on display, much to the delight of railway enthusiasts. There are various types of trains, including the amusement park mini train "Abt-kun," small steam locomotives, and sightseeing trains.
