Mount Usu is an active volcano that still has volcanic activity today. Taking the Mount Usu Ropeway, you can overlook the natural scenery of Showa Shinzan, Lake Toya, Mount Yotei, and Mount Usu from the Swiss-made gondola. After a 7-minute walk along a trail, you will reach the "Yamaguchihara Observation Deck," where you can see the volcanic crater "Ginnanuma Crater" from 1977, as well as the eruption bay connected to the Pacific Ocean. The observation deck at the summit, "Mt. USU Terrace," features sofas and a café, allowing visitors to leisurely enjoy the stunning views from the spacious terrace. The attached "Café Mt. USU" offers dishes made with local ingredients, allowing you to savor the delicious flavors of seasonal produce. Additionally, the base station has shops and dining facilities with a rich selection of local products, which are recommended for a visit.
