🎨 Restaurant Gallery
📝 Introduction
Exuding the atmosphere of a 120-year-old traditional house, it offers the opportunity to taste the exquisite wagashi that represents Gifu's finest confections.
📖 Details
Located near Nagara River Onsen, across from the Ukai Service Center, this wagashi shop has five branches in Gifu Prefecture, with the Kawaramachi branch offering both dine-in and takeout options. Its prime location in the hot spring area makes it a perfect resting spot for tourists and a great place to buy souvenirs.
The top choice for souvenirs is "Hikigani." This famous confection from Gifu has a history of over a thousand years and was traditionally offered to the imperial court (the Emperor) or the shogun of the time. Made with premium dried persimmons known as "Dōjō Hōya-gaki," its shape mimics the prized sweetfish caught by the cormorants of the Nagara River, which is why it is also referred to as sweetfish wagashi. The moist outer layer of the cake is filled with "Dōjō Hōya-gaki" mochi, and its elegant sweetness makes it a perfect accompaniment for tea.
Additionally, during a stroll, it is recommended to take a break in the dine-in area to enjoy freshly grilled "Soy Sauce Dango." The dango is made from 100% Gifu Prefecture "Mino Hatsushimo" rice flour, which has low stickiness and a refreshing taste. The dango is drizzled with a special sweet and savory dipping sauce made from soy sauce brewed with the clear spring water of the Nagara River, making it incredibly delicious. You can freely pair it with red bean paste and soybean flour, so feel free to try different combinations and enjoy a brief moment of relaxation.
