About West Lake
The West Lake, where the previously extinct "national trout" was discovered, is one of the Fuji Five Lakes that preserves abundant natural resources.
Details
Lake Saiko is located in the center of the Fuji Five Lakes, surrounded by mountains and the Aokigahara Sea of Trees, making it a mysterious lake. In recent years, the discovery of the once thought extinct Japanese char, after 70 years, has sparked interest. Additionally, it is a designated natural monument in Yamanashi Prefecture and serves as a habitat for the Fuji marimo, preserving rich natural resources.
One of the features of Lake Saiko is the many caves in the surrounding area, which are said to have formed from the cooling of lava during eruptions of Mount Fuji. Notable sites include the "Saiko Natural Center (Japanese Char Exhibition Hall, Saiko Bat Cave)" and "Fugaku Wind Cave," where visitors can walk inside the caves, making them popular tourist attractions.
There is also the "Lakeside Camping Ground," where you can enjoy outdoor activities while overlooking the Lake Saiko area. Activities such as kayaking, canoeing, and hiking allow you to experience the richness of nature.
