🗺️ Yahōshi Water Stop (Irrigation Canal)野火止用水

The Yabukita Irrigation Canal is a 360-year-old irrigation channel. In 1655 (the 4th year of the Jō'ō era), the lord of the Kawagoe domain, Matsudaira Izu no Kami Nobutsuna, ordered his retainer, Anmatsu Kan'emon, to construct this canal. The water source for the canal comes from the Tamagawa Josui diversion in Kodaira City, Tokyo, and it was once used as a drinking water source for the pioneers of the Yabukita Plateau. The irrigation waterway flows from Kodaira City through Higashimurayama City and Kiyose City to Higashikurume City, with a total length of 24 kilometers. Today, a well-maintained walking path has been built along the irrigation canal, making it a recreational area where visitors can enjoy the natural scenery of Niiza City. Along the walking path, there are many green spaces and parks, with the "Honda Greenway" in spring being particularly worth a visit, where rows of cherry blossoms, including Somei Yoshino and weeping cherry trees, bloom on both sides of the canal. The clear canal water and the cherry blossoms dancing in the air together weave a picturesque rural scene under the sunny sky, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Additionally, there are lush green views in summer and vibrant red maple leaves in autumn, making it a destination that showcases different charms with the changing seasons. Visitors can leisurely stroll while appreciating the diverse scenery throughout the year.
