The Yamada Yoji Museum is dedicated to showcasing the creative career and works of the famous film director Yamada Yoji. Yamada has directed many well-known films, among which the immensely popular series "Tora-san" set in Katsushika Shibamata is one of his representative works. After undergoing renovations, the museum reopened in 2019. The interior is spacious, bright, and filled with a sense of openness. Upon entering, visitors are immediately greeted by a lifelike statue of Yamada Yoji, leaving a strong impression. From 1969 to 2019, the "Tora-san" series, including special episodes, consists of a total of 50 films, all of which were directed by Yamada Yoji and involved his screenplay contributions. It can be said that Yamada Yoji is the "biological father" of "Tora-san," and "Katsushika Shibamata" has become a well-known location in Japan largely due to this masterpiece. The museum displays numerous films and related materials spanning Yamada's half-century career, as well as various filming equipment he once used. This allows visitors to understand the significant contributions this great director has made to Japanese cinema and his admirable creative journey. At the back of the exhibition hall, there is a "Shibamata Small Theater," where visitors can watch trailers of Yamada Yoji's works in a vintage atmosphere reminiscent of an old-fashioned cinema. Next to the museum, there is a café themed around the film "Tora-san," called "TORAsan cafe."
