About Yamanashi Prefectural Fuji Yusui no Sato Aquarium, Mori no Naka Suizokukan (Aquarium in the Forest)
The aquarium features clear and transparent water from Mount Fuji's spring, specifically showcasing freshwater fish.
Details
The "Yamanashi Prefectural Fuji Yusui no Sato Aquarium - Mori no Naka Suizokukan" is located within the "Sakana Koen" (Fish Park) area and is a freshwater fish aquarium. It mainly showcases freshwater fish that inhabit the natural environments of rivers and lakes in Yamanashi Prefecture.
The large tank located in the center is a dual circulation tank, allowing visitors to observe both large and small fish swimming together. The aquarium also features a large tank that can be viewed from the side, providing a glimpse of the pond outside through a large glass window. Visitors can see approximately 20 species, totaling over 300 fish swimming around, including grass carp and sturgeon that can grow up to 1 meter in length. Since the opposite shore of the pond is an expansive forest, watching the fish creates a wonderful sensation as if one is immersed in an underwater forest. If you visit in early summer, you can also witness the spectacular sight of around 8,000 sweetfish swimming together.
Highlights
An aquarium specializing in freshwater fish is quite rare in Japan. Because it uses highly transparent water from Mount Fuji springs, the fish in the tanks appear to be flying in the air. It is located within "Sakana Park (さかな公園)," which features streams and amusement facilities. Nearby, there are popular tourist attractions such as Oshino Hakkai and Lake Yamanaka that can be visited as well.
