The museum showcases the exquisite shipbuilding technology of Wu City, allowing visitors to understand the history and technology of this shipbuilding hub.
Details
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of its opening on April 23, 2025, the Yamato Museum will undergo a year-long comprehensive renovation. The last day of operation before the renovation will be February 16, 2025, so travelers planning to visit should take special note.
The Kure Maritime History and Science Museum, also known as the Yamato Museum, is dedicated to introducing the world's largest battleship during World War II, the "Yamato." It is also a place to learn about the history and scientific technology of Kure City. The museum features a 1/10 scale model of the battleship "Yamato," which was created based on design blueprints, photographs from underwater investigations, and testimonies from crew members. This battleship model serves as a symbol of the Yamato Museum, conveying the importance of cherishing peace and the allure of scientific technology to future generations.
In the large exhibition room on the first floor, visitors can see military weapons up close, including the "Zero Fighter Type 62" and the special attack weapon "Kaiten Type 10" (prototype). The displayed artifacts allow people to more vividly feel the tragedy of war and the preciousness of peace. On the third floor, in the experimental workshop classroom, visitors can experience simulated ship operations and learn about various technological principles related to ships through easy-to-understand activities. Both adults and children can enjoy the wonders and charms of technology while having fun. After visiting, guests can purchase various related souvenirs and gifts at the "Yamato Museum Shop." Popular souvenirs include "Navy Curry," made based on the flavors of the naval mess hall from that time, towels featuring illustrations of the Yamato battleship, and hats embroidered with the outline of the Yamato battleship.
