About Yokohama Mirai Museum
A museum that brings together the artworks of Émile Gallé, René Lalique, and others.
Details
Located in the 港未來 (Minato Mirai) area, the school corporation 港未來學園 (Minato Mirai Academy) features a museum showcasing glass art. The founder of Minato Mirai Academy, 鶴見耀彥 (Tsurumi Yohei), is a renowned collector of glass crafts, and the museum displays many of his collected artworks.
Although it is a small museum, it exhibits works from representative artists of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, such as Émile Gallé, René Lalique, and Daum Frères. These top-tier collections are truly captivating. The history of the museum's origin is quite unique. It was initially established based on Tsurumi's belief that "artistic elements and sensibility are very important for dental professional work" and that "there are commonalities between dental technology and glass craftsmanship." It began as an exhibition of glass crafts for dental school students and later evolved into a museum.
The museum is not open regularly; it only opens on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the planning exhibition periods, which occur 2 to 4 times a year. For details, please be sure to check the official website in advance.
