Yuharidake is located in the direction west of central Sasebo City in Nagasaki Prefecture. At an elevation of 364 meters, the summit features an observation deck that offers a panoramic view of Sasebo Port, where large cruise ships and Self-Defense Force vessels are docked, as well as the cityscape of Sasebo. To the west, you can see the Goto Sea and the Kujukushima Islands, making it the best viewing spot in Sasebo.
The night view, selected as one of the "Top 100 Night Views in Japan," is highly popular, with the orange glow of the port and city lights creating a dazzling and dreamlike landscape. The arched triangular roof of the observation deck was designed by the renowned Japanese architect Yoshikatsu Tsuboi, who also participated in the design of the National Yoyogi Stadium. This unique architectural structure has received high praise and is designated as a tangible cultural asset of Japan.
Access to the observation deck at Yuharikoen is mainly by car or taxi. Although there is a parking lot, the road to the summit is narrow and difficult for two vehicles to pass, so it is recommended to take a taxi driven by a local resident.
