About Yunoyama Onsen
Located in the nature of 御在所岳 (Gozaisho Mountain), this hot spring area has been in operation for 1300 years.
Details
Nestled at the foot of Mount Gozaisho, this naturally abundant hot spring area features numerous inns and hotels lining the banks of the Mitaki River, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region. Established in 718 during the Nara period, it has a long history and is named "Shika no Yu" (鹿之湯) due to the legend of deer healing their wounds here.
The hot spring is a weak alkaline radium spring, renowned for its excellent skin-beautifying effects and dubbed "Bijin no Yu" (美人之湯). The area offers a variety of accommodation options, including resort hotels, traditional inns, and mountain cabins, allowing visitors to choose based on their travel plans. There are also dining establishments featuring renowned chefs and pastry makers, as well as the popular resort "AQUA IGNIS," which includes a strawberry picking farm.
At the center of the hot spring area is the "Gozaisho Ropeway" (御在所纜車) base station, which takes about 15 minutes to reach the summit station at an elevation of 1,212 meters. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful natural scenery and stunning views throughout the four seasons—spring flowers, summer greenery, autumn leaves, and winter ice formations. Nearby, there are other attractions worth visiting, including a park along a lush stream and the famous Mitsutake-ji Temple (三嶽寺), known for its spiritual connections. In early October, the "Sōbō Matsuri" (僧兵祭) features a flaming god palanquin parading through the hot spring area.
