Established for over 130 years, the historic Nagahama restaurant is located in front of Daigoji Temple. After visiting attractions such as the main hall, the large hall, and the garden designated as a national scenic spot, you can enjoy local cuisine here. The meals are made with natural ingredients, and both lunch and dinner are served as set menus. From April to October, kaiseki cuisine featuring fresh fish from Lake Biwa, such as Biwa trout, sweetfish, whitebait, and eel, is offered. From October to March, you can enjoy a duck hot pot set that features delicious natural wild duck. There are three types of set menus with varying numbers of dishes. It is recommended to pair your meal with carefully selected sake from Shiga's breweries and seasonal local sake from various regions of Japan. The funa-zushi (carp sushi) is made using natural funa (carp) from Lake Biwa and top-quality Koshihikari rice from Omi, aged in a wooden tub, making it a true delicacy. In addition to funa, the restaurant also offers other types of cooked sushi made from different lake fish, with seven varieties available in the kaiseki set. Funa-zushi can be taken out, and in addition to the takeout bonito sushi, there are also cookies and pound cakes made from the rice used in funa-zushi. The restaurant has irregular holidays and can often be fully booked, so it is essential to make a reservation in advance. It is advisable to consult via email beforehand.
