About Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum

A memorial hall where you can see the actual cello, paintings, manuscripts, and other items used by Kenji Miyazawa.

Details

The Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum is built on the Mt. Hoshiwang, a place frequently visited by Miyazawa Kenji. In this museum, visitors can gain a comprehensive understanding of this well-known Japanese fairy tale writer through exhibitions of his works and life. There are also detailed introductions to his family and friends. The museum is generally divided into the "Permanent Exhibition Room," "Special Exhibition Room," "Scenic Lounge," and "Kenji Salon." In the "Permanent Exhibition Room," works and the creative process are explained in detail through projected images and related materials, categorized into five themes: science, art, the universe, agriculture, and prayer, along with research findings to date. The "Special Exhibition Room" serves as a space for a deeper understanding of Kenji's works, while the "Scenic Lounge" offers views of the Hanamaki cityscape. In the "Kenji Salon," visitors can view the history and images of Kenji and the Hanamaki area.

Highlights

The precious first editions and manuscripts can only be seen in the "Special Exhibition Room." There is a rich variety of exhibits beyond novels, including beloved Beethoven records, microscopes used for collecting minerals, and notebooks for garden design. At the restaurant "Yamabiko" in the parking lot, you can enjoy dishes made with local ingredients from Iwate. Next to the memorial hall, there is a flowerbed called "Poland Square," built according to the design plans left by Kenji Miyazawa.
