The famous mountain celebrated in the "Man'yōshū" is also mentioned in Kōtarō Takamura's "Chieko-shō." It is loved by hikers for its easy access to natural scenery and is listed as one of the "One Hundred Famous Mountains of Japan."
Mount Adatara is also well-known as one of the "One Hundred Famous Mountains of Flowers," being a treasure trove of alpine plants and wildflowers. Especially during the best flower viewing period in June, a variety of flowers bloom with the seasons, captivating all visitors. The desolate cliffs around the Numano-daira crater, formed during a volcanic eruption in the Meiji era, evoke a Martian landscape, making it quite a sight to behold.
Although its elevation reaches 1,700 meters, taking the "Adatara Mountain Ropeway" allows you to reach the summit station at 1,350 meters in about 10 minutes from the base station, followed by an easy hike of about an hour and a half to the top, making it popular among beginner hikers and families. Mount Adatara is also renowned for its autumn foliage, attracting a large number of hikers from late September to mid-October each year. In winter, a ski resort opens, allowing visitors to fully enjoy some of the best snow quality in the Tōhoku region.

Take a route bus for 45 minutes from JR Tohoku Main Line "Nihonmatsu" Station to "Okuyama Mountain Entrance" Station, then walk for 1 minute to the cable car base station.
