About Akihabara Glass

In the workshop at the foot of the mountain, challenge yourself to create your own unique blown glass or stained glass.

Details

Akihabara Glass is located in the Akihabara district of Niigata City, which has a long history of glass manufacturing. It is currently one of the few glassblowing workshops in Niigata Prefecture. In the workshop, artisans create various glass works that incorporate elements of folk art, and they also hold experience classes for the general public. The glassblowing experience uses a tubular tool to blow air into molten glass, allowing it to expand, enabling participants to make items like cups and single flower vases. Although shaping the glass into the desired form is not easy, beginners can feel at ease under the careful guidance of the glass craftsmen. There are also various other experiences available, including stained glass painting, and glassblowing experiences for making glass beads or rings (all require reservation). The works created during the glassblowing experience can be picked up the next day, with the option to collect them directly from the workshop or have them mailed. Works from other experience courses can be taken home on the same day. The workshop also features a shop displaying glass products made by artisans, including glassware and decorative items, suitable for everyday use or as gifts. In addition to the experiences, customers can also purchase their favorite items in the store.
