About Asahikawa Nicholas Observation Tower
The symbolic tower of the ski resort has been recognized as a Night View Heritage of Japan.
Details
The "Asahikawa Nicholas Observation Tower" was recognized as a Japanese Night View Heritage in 2020. Located at an altitude of 330 meters at the summit of the "Christmas Gift Park Marurosu Ski Resort," this high tower serves as a landmark for the ski resort and is open to the public during specific periods.
From the observation room, which is about 50 meters above the ground, visitors can enjoy the magnificent views of the distant Biei Hills, the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range, and the Tokachi Mountains, showcasing the grandeur of northern landscapes. Additionally, the night view recognized as a Japanese Night View Heritage is exceptionally beautiful, allowing visitors to take in the entire nightscape of Asahikawa city.
This place is also chosen as a perfect spot for proposals, making it a sacred place for lovers. On the first floor of the observation tower, there is a large bell called the "Bell of Love." It is said that couples ring the bell together and write their wishes on a love wish card, which they then hang on a nearby tree, a practice passed down among lovers. Just like the name of the ski resort suggests, it is said that Santa Claus from around the world will grant the wishes of lovers.
