An observation deck built on a cliff with an excellent view.
Details
Located on the cliff in front of Cape Soya Lighthouse, the Ashimokuzaki Observatory offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. The observatory extends like a ledge from the cliff, providing an unobstructed view of the vast and endless coastline of the Pacific.
Nearby, you can find a rich variety of seasonal flowers, coastal plants, and alpine flora, creating a stunning landscape filled with blooming flowers along the way. The well-maintained trails allow visitors to enjoy the sea view while taking a leisurely stroll. The ice cream sold by the shops at the foot of the mountain is also quite popular. The Ashimokuzaki Observatory serves as the starting point for the Tanesashi Coast walk, with trails leading all the way to the Tanesashi Natural Grassland.
Along the approximately 5.2-kilometer trail, you will pass through Nakusuka, which boasts 600 to 650 species of flowers and plants, the beautiful white sandy beaches of Osuka Coast, and a pine forest said to be over a hundred years old, as well as important landmarks like the Yodomatsu Plain with its unique rocks and boulders. After enjoying the sea view from the observatory, it is highly recommended to continue along the trail for a scenic hike.
