Designed in the style of an Edo period castle town, the wide street, measuring 6 meters in width, extends about 350 meters southwest from the Kyobashi bridge, which crosses the old moat of Hikone Castle. To match the atmosphere of Hikone Castle, the buildings along the street are uniformly styled as machiya with white walls, black lattice, and gabled roofs. This visually appealing street makes first-time visitors feel as if they have stepped into another world. The shopping street is lined with various shops, including restaurants, dessert shops, and souvenir stores, offering local specialties from Hikone. It is worth a visit on the way back after touring Hikone Castle.
