About Eight Food Center
A large market with about 60 shops gathered together.
Details
The Hachishoku Center is a large market representing Aomori Prefecture, primarily featuring fresh seafood caught at Hachinohe Port, one of Japan's major fishing ports, and gathering various specialty products from the Hachinohe area. The Hachishoku Center was originally established about 40 years ago by local vendors selling fish near the harbor. Today, it covers an area of over 4,200 square meters, with around 60 shops densely packed, mainly focusing on seafood. The lively calls of vendors create a bustling and prosperous atmosphere throughout the market.
Inside the market, there are conveyor belt sushi restaurants using local fresh fish, places where you can grill fresh seafood or meat purchased directly from the market over charcoal, as well as shops selling processed products and local specialty sake, making it a great spot for picking up souvenirs. The place is always bustling with crowds, and it frequently hosts outdoor live events, such as temporary cooking classes (reservation required).
Every Wednesday, the market and restaurants at the Hachishoku Center are closed for business. Additionally, there is only one municipal bus per hour from Hachinohe Station or Hachinohe city center to the Hachishoku Center, so please pay attention to transportation information.
Highlights
The market is filled with fresh fish and shellfish caught from Hachinohe Port. There is a grilling area in the market where you can enjoy freshly grilled seafood or meat bought right from the market over charcoal. Every Wednesday, the market and restaurants are open to travelers as a public holiday.
