Details
Expo '70 Commemorative Park is a park built on the former site of the "Japan World Expo" held in 1970, featuring rich natural landscapes such as forests and hills. The "Tower of the Sun," designed by Taro Okamoto, stands here to welcome visiting tourists. The interior of the "Tower of the Sun" can be prioritized for visits with a reservation, and the "Tree of Life," made of steel and standing 41 meters tall, conveys a powerful presence. (※If there are still available slots on the day, tickets can be purchased on-site for entry to the interior.)
Within the expansive park, there are the "Natural Cultural Garden" and the "Japanese Garden," where visitors can enjoy the seasonal changes of flowers and autumn leaves. Along the suspended pathway in the natural park, visitors can ascend the observation tower, which stands at 82 meters, to overlook the cityscape of Osaka. Additionally, in the "Color Tunnel," visitors can simulate the world as seen through the eyes of insects using orange filters.
The park also houses cultural facilities such as the "Japan Folk Craft Museum," which showcases excellent crafts, and the "National Museum of Ethnology," which is responsible for research and investigation in ethnology and cultural anthropology. Furthermore, the "EXPO '70 Pavilion," which was transformed from the steel pavilion of the Osaka Expo, displays approximately 80 categories and over 3,000 items of information from the 1970 Osaka Expo.
In addition, the world's largest ATHLETIC TOWER, "Expo BEAST," opened in March 2020. This is a sports facility based on a hexagonal design, featuring around 120 types of sports activities, including rock climbing and balance beams.
