About Father Island
One of the World Heritage Sites, the "Ogasawara Islands," is an island with pristine nature and breathtaking scenery.
Details
Located about 1,000 kilometers southeast of central Tokyo, the "Ogasawara Islands" consist of more than 30 islands of various sizes. Since their formation, they have never been connected to the main island and are home to many native and rare species, thriving in a unique ecosystem, which is why they have been designated as a World Heritage site. The main island, "Chichijima," does not have an airport and can only be reached by ferry from Tokyo. Although transportation is somewhat inconvenient, visitors can enjoy unique natural beauty.
The island features several well-known viewpoints, including the "Ogasawara Mountain Park Observation Deck," "Nagasaki Observation Deck," "Nakayama Pass Observation Deck," and the "Meteorological Station Observation Deck," where beautiful sunsets can be admired. There are also attractions like the "Ogasawara Marine Center," where one can encounter green sea turtles, and the uninhabited "Minami Island," among others.
The island offers a variety of rich experiences, including guided tours of underground trenches and artillery sites, night sightseeing tours of Chichijima, whale watching, and many other activities worth participating in.
Highlights
The main islands of the Ogasawara Islands are a treasure trove of nature and stunning scenery. There are plenty of activities available, including guided tours. There is only one ferry service per week, which takes about 24 hours from central Tokyo. Please note that places like Minami-jima require a guide.
