⛩️ Fukagawa Fudodo Temple (深川不動堂)

📝 Introduction

Fukagawa Fudoson, which has been highly revered by the common people since the Edo period.

📖 Details

Deep River Fudo-do (深川不動堂) is located in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, and is the Tokyo branch of the main temple Naritasan Shinsho-ji (大本山成田山新勝寺). Since ancient times, it has been revered by local residents as the “Fudo-san of Fukagawa.” The temple holds five "Homa Fire Ceremonies" for prayer daily at 9 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM, and 5 PM. The prayer ritual is conducted amid the resounding beats of drums and roaring flames, allowing visitors to freely observe and pray. Inside the main hall, approximately 10,000 small crystal Five-Wheel Towers are displayed, housing statues of Fudo Myoo (不動尊). Visitors can also participate in activities such as sutra copying (抄経) and Aji-gan (阿字観) meditation experiences. The approach to the temple features a shopping street called “Ninjou Fukagawa Gori Kyu-dori” (人情深川御利益通). The 1st, 15th, and 28th of each month are special days (縁日) for Deep River Fudo-do, attracting large crowds on these days and making the entire shopping street even more vibrant.

⭐ Highlights

The outer walls of the main hall are covered with the Sanskrit characters of the Fudō Myōō mantra, and the architectural style is quite unique. Inside the main hall, there is a "Prayer Corridor" arranged with crystal five-wheel pagodas. The goma prayer ceremony is characterized by a grand taiko drum sound and roaring flames. Don’t miss the "Ninjō Fukagawa Gōri Kitō-dō" shopping street.
