Fukuoka City Zoological and Botanical Garden is located in the southern park area of the hilly region of Fukuoka City. The central area of the park is designated for the zoo, while the southern area is for the botanical garden, with the two sections connected by an overpass. The zoo is divided into the North Zone, South Zone, and the Asian Tropical Valley area. In the North Zone, you can find giraffes, southern white rhinos, and moon bears. The South Zone features raccoons, lions, tigers, and hippos, as well as a penguin area that opened in January 2022, and the Tropical Valley area, which houses orangutans, leopards, and small-clawed otters, showcasing about 100 species of animals. The botanical garden includes a rose garden, a wildflower garden, and a large flower bed. The large greenhouse cultivates approximately 1,240 species of plants, and there are about 1,400 species of flowering plants that bloom with the seasons. Within the park, the "Animal Information Center ZooLab" provides an easy way to learn about animal-related knowledge, offering information for navigating the park and fun facts about animals. There are also displays of animal skeletal specimens, allowing visitors to learn about the structure of animal bodies.
